The Hickory Crawdads continued their winning ways Thursday night. The 'Dads got a marvelous pitching performance from their bullpen and defeated the West Virginia Power 4-1 at L.P. Frans Stadium.

But depsite the win, Greensboro maintained its three-game lead on Hickory (60-43 overall; 19-15 second half of the South Atlantic League season) in the Northern Division of the SAL. The Grasshoppers defeated Asheville 9-8 Thursday night.

Relievers Scott Williams, Felix Carvallo, and Ryne Slack combined for six shutout innings. That group scattered four hits and struck out five. West Virginia (35-67; 15-19) made nine hits, but the Power left ten men on base.

On the other hand, the Crawdads only collected six hits, but five of those game in their two run-scoring innings. The win is the third straight for Hickory, and improves the 'Dads season record against the Power to 9-0.

Similar to Wednesday's game, West Virginia took the initial lead as the Power plated a run on a RBI sacrifice fly by Reese McGuire in the third for a 1-0 lead. But the Crawdads finally got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Luis Marte and Michael De Leon had back-to-back two-out, run-scoring singles.

Nomar Mazara put it out of reach by crushing a two-run homer in the eighth for a 4-1 lead. Mazara is tied with West Virginia shortstop JaCoby Jones for second in the SAL with home runs apiece. De Leon led the 'Dads going 3-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Williams (1-0) picked up his first professional win with two scoreless innings. He scattered two two hits with three strikeouts. Slack came on with one out in the eighth and picked up his fourth save. The Crawdads will go for the series sweep tonight at 7:00 p.m.
