The Texas Rangers announced today that Hickory Crawdads RHP Jose Monegro has been promoted to the AA Frisco RoughRiders, becoming the eighth 'Dad this season to move up in the Rangers

organization.

With two open roster spots following Monegro's departure, the Crawdads added both OF Zach Cone and LHP Frank Lopez to the active roster. Cone, 24, re-joins the 'Dads after playing in Hickory in 2012, where he hit .262 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs in 112 games. A first round pick by the Rangers in the 2011 Draft out of the University of Georgia, Cone began 2014 with 43 games played in Myrtle Beach before playing his last 36 contests with the short-season Spokane Indians. Cone is batting an accumulative .204 with nine homers and 41 RBIs in 79 total games this year.

Lopez, 20, comes back to Hickory after allowing one run and striking out seven over six innings pitched in four rehab appearances with the AZL Rangers. The 6'1" southpaw posted a 2.09 ERA, a .241 average against, and 42 strikeouts over 38.2 innings pitched with the Crawdads earlier this year. Lopez was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week on May 12th, shortly before going on the disabled list on May 22nd.

Monegro, 24, leaves Hickory to re-join the RoughRiders, marking the fifth time this season the right-hander has changed teams. The Dominican Republic native had a 6.11 ERA with the 'Dads, while posting a 22/2 K/BB ratio over 17.2 innings pitched. Monegro has already pitched for all four of the Rangers full-season affiliates this year, including a brief stint in Frisco that included one scoreless outing with 1.1 innings pitched. 2014 marked the fourth year that Monegro has spent time in Hickory.

Monegro joins fellow 2014 Crawdads Josh McElwee, Cody Kendall, Kevin Pucetas, Lewis Brinson, Nick Vickerson, Abel De Los Santos, and Kevin Torres as players who have moved up in the Rangers organization this season.
