Wilkes American Wins State Championship PDF Print

The Wilkes County American softball team captured the Tar Heel League's girls' 10-and-under Girls Fastpitch Softball state championship Sunday at Shelby City Park.





The Shelby All-Stars only needed one win to claim the championship on Sunday. But Wilkes American won the title coming out of the losers' bracket. Wilkes American won game on, 13-3; they won game two, 9-1.



Sophie Nichols led Wilkes American with a combined total of five hits in Sunday's doubleheader sweep. Paige Phillips and Elizabeth Church each had three hits in game one. Kendall Stanley, Macie Bell, and Kacey Triplett had two hits apiece in game two. Hannah Carpenter led Shelby with a combined five hits on Sunday.
