The woes continued for the Hickory Crawdads Saturday night. The Crawdads (57-42 overall; 16-14, second half of the South Atlantic League season) pounded out nine hits---all singles---in a 6-1 loss to

the first place Greensboro Grasshoppers (64-36; 20-10) at NewBridge Bank Park.

The loss driops Hickory four games behind Greensboro for first place in the Northern Division of the SAL. The big difference in the game, two home runs by the Grasshoppers that broke the contest open.

In almost a mirror image of Friday's game, the Grasshoppers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to a three-run homer by all-star first baseman Felix Munoz off of Hickory losing pitcher Akeem Bostick. The Crawdads responded with a run in the top of the second on Ronald Guzman's run-scoring single that scored Nomar Mazara that made it, 3-1. But that was about all the Crawdads could muster offensively Saturday night.

Bostick (5-6) settled down following his first inning meltdown. But a solo home run by J.T. Riddle in the fifth gave. the Grasshoppers a 4-1 lead. They plated two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on Austin Dean's two-run single to center field off of 'Dads reliever Jose Monegro.

Evan Van Hooiser, Mazara and Joe Jackson provided the bulk of the offense for the 'Dads in Saturday night's loss. Van Hoosier went 3-4 with a stolen base; Mazara was 2-3 with a walk and a run scored; Jackson was 2-4.

Greensboro starting pitcher Jose Adames (1-0) earned the win in his SAL debut. He held the Crawdads a run on eight hits with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Bostick took the loss. He coughed up four runs on five hits during his five-inning stint on the mound.

Hickory will try to bounce back in game three of their four game series today atr 4:00 p.m.
