It was a tough night at the plate for the Hickory Crawdads offensively. They were held hitless for four innings in a 6-2 loss at Greenboro Friday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The loss drops Hickory three games behind fisrt-place Greensboro in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division.

Starting pitcher Cody Crabaugh (3-1), who tossed a season-high seven innings, held the Crawdads to a run on three hits with six strikeouts. Nomar Mazara was Hickory's (57-41 overall; 16-13, second half of the SAL season) best hitting going 2-4 with a double, a run-batted-in, and a run scored.

The game got off to a bad start when Grasshoppers' (63-36; 19-10) belted a three-run homer off losing pitcher Cole Wiper (6-8) of the Crawdads for a 3-0 lead. Wiper settled down after that and held the Grasshoppers scoreless for the next four innings.

Greensboro added to its lead in the sixth, thanks to a a pair of singles and a wild pitch. Hickory finally got on the bord in the seventh. Joe Jackson led off with a double. He scored on Mazara's RBI single that made it 4-1.

But Greensboro responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Felix Munoz belted a two-run double in the frame for a 6-1 lead. Mazara Kellin Deglan added back-to-back doubles in the top of the ninth for the Crawdads to close out the scoring.

Wiper, who took the loss, gave up three runs on five hits over five innings. The 'Dads look to bounce back in game two of this four game series Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
