Matthew Dixon has a keen eye, and his aim is superb. Dixon, an Ashe County native from Crumpler, N.C., finished sixth place in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational in Grand Island, NE., in June.

Dixon was among 566 individual shooters representing 34 states at the six-day tournament. Shooters competed in several events---air pistol, air rifle, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, compound archery, recurve archery, muzzleloader, shotgun and hunting skills.

Dixon was one of four members on the North Carolina team, which finished 14th overall, in the compound archery discipline. The North Carolina squad finished 11th in the 3-D event. The shooting team will compete in a regional tournament in August.
