The Hickory Crawdads didn't have any problems making hits Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, they only scored four times in a 9-4 loss to the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium.




The Crawdads (56-38 overall; 15-10 second half South Atlantic League season) outhit the Braves 13-12 (all singles). Ryan Cordell led the way going 2-4 with two runs-batted-in;, Nomar Mazara was 2-5 with an RBI; Jairo Beras was 2-5, and Ronald Guzman was 2-3.


Ten of Rome's 12 hits were singles, but the Braves (31-64; 7-18) also had two extra base hits that resulted in four runs. Johan Camargo had a two-run triple in the second inning; Conner Lien belted a two-run homer in a three-run fourth inning. Rome added to its lead with two more runs in the fifth, knocking Crawdads starting pitcher Akeem Bostick out of the game. They scored another run in the sixth for an 8-0 lead.


The 'Dads finally got on th board in the top of the seventh. Guzman, Luis Marte, Joe Jackson, Cordell, and Mazara all had singles in the frame, driving in three run, and narrowing the gap at 8-3. Michael De Leon had an RBI single in the eighth.

Bostick suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.


The 'Dads will be off on Monday before starting a three-game home stand against the Lakewood BlueClaws Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
