Errors Undo 'Dads In 7-3 Loss PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads proved to be their own worst enemy Friday night, as two costly Hickory (55-37 overall; 14-9 second half of the South Atlantic League season) errors led to six unearned runs for the

Rome Braves resulting in a 7-3 'Dads loss at State Mutual Stadium.

A throwing error by first baseman Ronald Guzman in the third inning extended handed the Braves (30-63; 6-17) two unearned runs; a throwing miscue by Luis Marte in the fourth gave the Braves four unearned runs.

The loss snaps an 11-game road, winning streak for the Crawdads and also marks the team's first loss to the Braves this season after five straight wins.

Guzman's throwing error in the third extended the inning, and Tanner Krietemeier took advantage of it by lining a two-out, two-run triple inside the first base bag for a 2-0 lead.

The Crawdads responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on Travis Demeritte's SAL-leading 19th home run of the year, a two-run shot, that tied the game at 2-2.

But Marte's miscue in the bottom of the fourth doomed Hickory. The Braves combined Marte's throwing error with a two-run double by Sal Giardina, an RBI single from Johan Camargo, and a two-run double by Krietemeier to plate five runs for a 7-2 lead. Krietemeier had five RBI Friday night to pace the Braves.

For Hickory, Michael De Leon was 1-3 with a double, two walks, and an RBI; Marte went 2-4 with a run scored; Kellin Deglan ended the night 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Demeritte was 1-4

Braves starting pitcher Matt Marksberry (1-6) earned his first win of the year after holding the 'Dads to two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts over five innings. Crawdads starting pitcher Ricardo Rodriguez (5-4) took the loss after giving up seven runs, only one earned, on eight hits over four innings.

The Crawdads and Braves play again Saturday night in game three of their four game series at 7:00 p.m.
