The District 2 Tar Heel Baseball Tournament officially got underway Monday night.



The Watauga 10-and-under Tar Heel Midget League team rallied to beat Ashe County 5-3 Monday night in Sparta, N.C. Jacob Fox belted a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the sixth that wiped out a 3-1 deficit and tied the game at 3-3, sending it into extra innings.


Watauga won the game in the top of the seventh. Graham Bledsoe had a triple and Aiden Bye drove him in with a double; Watauga picked up an insurance run on a passed ball. Bryce Walker got the win.


Watauga takes on Wilkes National tonight in Sparta at 5:30 p.m. The tournament champion advances to the state tournament in Sparta.




The Watauga 11-12-year-olds lost to Wilkes American 12-0 Monday night in the opening round of the Tar Heel Little League 50/70 Tournament in Jefferson, N.C.


Watauga plays an elimination game tonight at 7:30 p.m., at the Dr. Pepper Field in Jefferson. The top two teams advance to the state tournment in Jefferson.




The Watauga American 8-and-under Tar Heel Coach Pitch team defeated Wilkes American 16-1 in the opening round Monday night in Wilkesboro, N.C. The game was called after four innings because of the ten-run mercy rule.


Camden Reese had a double and three runs-batted-in; Jacob Moretz and Dalton Reese each had a double and drove in two runs; Lex Washburn homered; Aiden Parks had an RBI single; Parker Isaacs had an RBI double.


Trailing 16-0, Cameron Layaou drove in Wilkes American's only run with an RBI single in the fourth inning.


Watauga American will play Wilkes American-Royal tonight at 7:15 p.m. at Lowes Park at Rivers Edge in Wilkesboro. The top three teams will advance to the state tournament in Smithfield, N.C., July 24-27.




In the girls 10-and-under Tar Heel Fastpitch Softball Tournament, Watauga had a bye in the first round. Watauga will play Wilkes American tonight at Watauga High School at 5:30 p.m.


Wilkes American defeated Ashe County 9-0 Monday night; Alleghany defeated Mitchell, 3-0. The top two teams will advance to the state tournament in Morganton, July 17-20.




Junior Baseball - Wilkes County beat Watauga 10-0. Play Wilkes again Thursday at 6 p.m. at Optimist Park.


12U Baseabll - Wilkes County beat Watauga 12-0. Watauga plays tonight at 7:30 p.m., against the loser of Ashe/Allegheny in Ashe Co.


10U Baseball - Watauga County beat Wilkes 5-3. Watauga plays tonite at 5:30 p.m., against Wilkes National in Sparta.


10U Softball - Did not play. Plays tonite at 5:30 at WHS against Wilkes.
