That's about all you can say about the Hickory Crawdads and their recent hot streak. The Crawdads continued their winning ways Wednesday night. They pounded out five home runs and blasted the West Virginia Power 5-1 at Appalachian Power Park.
The five home runs were a season high for the Crawdads (53-30 overall; 12-2 second half of the South Atlantic League season), who have won six in a row and 27 of their last 30 games. The 'Dads also lead the South Atlantic League with 81 home runs.
Lewis Brinson and Nomar Mazara backboned Hickory's power surge with a pair of home runs apeice. Ryan Cordell had a solo shot. The Crawdads have now homered in 10 straight games---a total of 21 home runs during that stretch.
Trailing 1-0, Mazara and Brinson connected on consecutive home runs off losing pitcher Buddy Borden of West Virginia (28-54; 8-6) in the second inning. Brinson hit his second home run of the game in the fourth to give the Crawdads a 3-1 lead; Cordell and Mazara went back-to-back in the sixth to give Hickory a 5-1 lead.
Ryne Slack (6-1) got the win in relief with three scoreless innings. Jose Monegro finished up for the Crawdads. Both Mazara and Brinson were each 2-4 with two solo home runs; Cordell ended the night 1-4 with his solo home run. Luis Marte was 3-4 with three singles.
