The game of baseball is a great example of life itself. One day, you're up and nothing can go wrong. And the next, it's just the opposite. Well, the Hickory Crawdads, who went through a splendid run in recent weeks, have boaged down just a little,. The Crawdads (47-30 overall; 6-2 second half of the South Atlantic League

season) have dropped two in a row for the first time in six weeks. During their five-week stretch, the 'Dads had spun off separate winning streaks of 12 and nine games, and they boasted a 33-10 record.

Their most recent setback came Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators at L.P. Frans Stadium. The 'Dads were held to just five hits and eight total base runners. The loss leaves Hickory in a three-way tie with Hagerstown and West Virginia for first place in the SAL's North Division.

The Intimidators (34-41; 5-3) grabbed a 2-0 second-inning lead on second baseman Christian Stringer's two-out, two-run double to right-center field. Ryan Cordell's solo home run in the fourth made it 2-1, But Kannapolis tacked on an an insurance run in the seventh when Stringer snuck a triple past a diving Lewis Brinson in center field to score Carl Thomore for a 3-1 lead.

The Crawdads had men on base in both the fifth and sixth frames, but failed to score as relief pitcher Andre Wheeler and Jose Brito combined to toss four shutout innings. Starting pitcher Jordan Guerrero (5-0) got the win while making his first start of the season. He gave up a run on three hits, with two walks, and four strikeouts over five innings. Ricardo Rodriguez (5-2) suffered the loss. He gave up two runs on six hits, with a walk and four strikeouts during his five innings on the mound. Brito picked up his second save with two shutout innings.

Cordell paced the Hickory offense with a 2-4 night including his fifth homer of the season; Brinson also finished with a multi-hit game going 2-4 with a stolen base. The Greenville Drive comes to town for a four-game series beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
