The Hickory Crawdads are on a roll. And the "Hickory Express" claimed another victim Monday night. The Crawdads (46-28 overall; 5-0 second half) blanked Kannapolis 2-0 at L.P. Frans Stadium. It was also Hickory's sixth shutout win of the year. The Hickory pitching staff has a 0.90 earned-run-average on this run.

The combine pitching of Akeem Bostick, Ryne Slack, Jose Valdespina, and Cody Kendall combined to hold the Kannapolis hitters to just three hits.

Bostick (4-3), who got the win, established the tone by retiring the last 14 batters he faced. He went five strong innings and gave up two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Slack came on in the sixth. He retired the first two batters he faced before he lost his control and walked three straight hitters to load the bases. Slack left the game accompanied by athletic trainer Sean Fields. Valdespina picked up his All-Star teammate however, recording the final out of the inning en route to tossing 2.1 hitless frames from the pen. Kendall would finish the job from there, as the All-Star closer tossed a scoreless ninth to give the Crawdads the win, and his team-leading seventh save of the year.

Second baseman Evan Van Hoosier. The All-Star lined a solo home run to left leading off the game before he doubled and scored on a ground-ball out in the third. Van Hoosier was 2-4 with his sixth home run of the year, a double and two runs scored. Lewis Brinson made a triumphant return to the lineup, with the center fielder going 3-4 with a double in his first game played since June 9.

The Crawdads (5-0) are also the only remaining undefeated team in the South Atlantic League. The 'Dads will put their perfect record up against the Intimidators (32-40; 3-2) in game two of their four-game series Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
