Lees-McRae men’s soccer coach Lee Squires is pleased to announce the Bobcats schedule for the 2014 season, the team announced Tuesday morning.
LMC returns 21 players from last season’s squad that went 9-7-1, while notching a 5-3 mark in Conference Carolinas.
The Bobcats will be tested early and often while playing eight matches in a 23-day span in September.
They will travel to Salisbury, N.C. to battle two South Atlantic Conference representatives in Catawba (Sept. 4) and Newberry (Sept. 6).
LMC will entertain its home crowd for the first time on Sept. 10 against North Georgia before welcoming Lander and Mars Hill, Sept. 13 and 17, respectively.
Lander reached the third round of the 2013 NCAA DII Men’s Soccer Championship.
The Bobcats opens conference play with a pair of road matches at Erskine (Sept. 20) and Conference Carolina newcomer Southern Wesleyan (Sept. 24).
Coach Squires’ squad will seek to duplicate last year’s success against Pfeiffer on Sept. 27 after beating the Falcons 2-0 in 2013.
LMC takes on Lincoln Memorial in a nonconference bout Oct. 1 before hosting a trio of matches starting with Mount Olive Oct. 4.
Conference foe Limestone visits Banner Elk, N.C. Oct. 8 before LMC concludes its nonconference portion of the season against Tusculum Oct. 15.
"Our schedule, like every year, represents an opportunity for us to play some of the best teams in our region. With the addition of the two new CC members, the league is now deeper and stronger. We have many home matches towards the backend of the year and Banner Elk is a difficult place for the opposition to come, particularly in October,” said Squires.
The Bobcats travel for three CC matches beginning with at Belmont Abbey Oct. 18. LMC visits North Greenville (Oct. 22) and Barton (Oct. 25) to wrap up its road slate.
The squad welcomes King (Tenn.) Oct. 28 before concluding regular season play with a home match against Emmanuel (Ga.) Nov. 1.
“We are excited, ready and hopefully we can get off to a good start to set us up for the challenging conference slate. As always, we'll take each match as it comes and not look to far ahead," said Squires.
