The Atlanta Braves didn't waste any time signing their top draft pick, outfielder Braxton Davidson of Asheville-Roberson.
Davidson, who graduated on Sunday, was the 32nd overall choice in the Major League Amatuer Draft on June 5. He signed with the Braves Monday morning at Turner Field. The suggested signing bonus for the No. 32 draft pick is $1,705,400.
Davidson will begin his career with the Gulf Coast League Braves in Florida. He was the North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year and shared the Mountain Athletic Conference's player of the year award after batting .462 with 20 RBIs, 34 runs scored, 11 doubles, 14 stolen bases and five home runs. Davidson was walked 25 times. He played infield and outfield positions for the MAC 4-A champion Rams (16-11). As a pitcher, Davidson was 4-2 with a 1.94 earned-run average and 81 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched.
Davidson signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at the University of North Carolina last November, but will forego that opportunity to play professionally.
