Crawdads Walk Off with 8-7 Win PDF Print

Less than a week after rejoining the Hickory Crawdads from a month-long stint on the disabled list, Lewis Brinson emerged as the hero Tuesday night with a game-winning sacrifice fly in the ninth inning that gave the ‘Dads (30-27) defeated the Charleston RiverDogs 8-7 at L.P. Frans Stadium.

 

 

 

The Crawdads entered the 9th in a 7-7 tie after Charleston rallied for two runs to tie the game in the eighth inning. Joe Jackson got the game-winning rally started with a double to right field. Following an intentional walk to Nomar Mazara, Ryan Cordell walked loading the bases for Brinson, who lifted a fly ball into right field that scored Jackson with the winning run.

 

The Crawdads m who trailed early, rallied to tie the game 3-3 on Nick Vickerson’s two-run homer in the third inning. The Dads then took the lead with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by Jackson’s run-scoring double and Mazara;’s towering three-run homer for a 7-3 lead.

 

The RiverDogs (27-31) chipped away and scored twice in the sixth and two more times in the eighth to tie the game, setting the stage for Brinson’s ninth-inning heroics.

 

Brinson finished the game 1-3 with a walk and the game-winning RBI; Mazara went 3-4 with his seventh home run of thee year and three RBI; Vickerson was 1-4 with two RBI; Cordell was 1-4 with a home run; Jackson went 2-5 with a double and two RBI. Hickory reliever

 

Cody Kendall (4-2) earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings pitched down the stretch The Crawdads have won a season-high four in a row and six of their last seven games. They go for the sweep today at 11 a.m.
