'Dads Use Long Ball, Down RiverDogs PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads, thanks to a pair of home runs by Nomar Mazara and Joe Jackson, rallied to beat the Charleston RiverDogs 9-6 Monday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.

 

 

 

 

 

Hickory broke the game open with three runs in the fifth inning followed by five more in the sixth. Mazara's three-run shot in the fifth wiped out a 2-1 deficit; and Jackson's two-run blast capped off a five-run rally in the sixth and gave the 'Dads (29-27) a commanding 9-2 lead.

 

 

The 'Dads also find themselves two games over .500 for the first time since April 11th; and Hickory is averaging nearly seven runs a game in its last six games with six home runs.

 

 

 

The RiverDogs put a rally of their own together, thanks to a two-run homer by Aaron Judge in the eighth and a two-run shot by Eduardo De Oleo in the ninth to narrow the score to 9-6. But Hickory reliever Felix Carvallo got Michael O'Neill on a fly ball to center field to end the game.

 

 

Jackson ended the night 2-5 with a homer and three RBI; Mazara went 1-3 with a home run with three RBI; Nick Vickerson was 2-4 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored.

 

 

All the offense overshadowed one of the best starts of the year by Crawdads pitcher Cole Wiper (4-6), who earned the win after holding Charleston to two runs on three hits over his six innings pitched while striking out a season-high nine batters.

 

 

The Crawdads and RiverDogs will play again tonight at 7:00 p.m.
