Mazara Drives In Four; 'Dads Win PDF Print

Nomar Mazara homered and drove in a season-high four runs as the Hickory Crawdads (24-25) got by Kannapolis 11-9 Monday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.

 

 

 

The Crawdads continued their assault on South Atlantic League pitching with their eighth straight game of at least nine hits. They also scored in double digets for the fourth time during their run.

 

Mazara led the way going 2-4 with his fourth home run of the year. He also had a double and he scored three runs. Ryan Cordell was 3-5 with a triple, double, two runs scored and a RBI. It's the third time in three games that Cordell has come one hit shy of hitting for the cycle.

 

Evan Van Hoosier was 2-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; Kellin Deglan was 2-3 with a double and a run scored; Michael De Leon was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ronald Guzman went 1-3 with a home run and three RBI.

 

Jacob Morris paced the Kannapolis (21-28) as he tied a South Atlantic League record with four doubles to go along with two RBI and three runs scored.

 

The Crawdads came from behind on two occasions Monday night. A run-scoring double by Van Hoosier tied the game at 4-4 in the second inning; a two-run homer by Guzman in the third tied the game 6-6.

 

Mazara's three-run homer in the fourth gave the Crawdads took a 9-6 lead and they never trailed again.

 

Kelvin Vasquez (2-1) earned the win after settling down from his early struggles. The right hander made it through the fifth inning and gave up six earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. over. Kevin Pucetas earned his first save of the year for getting the final six outs of the game.

 

Tyler Barnette (2-3) of the Intimidators, who played at Hickory High, got roughed up for eight runs, seven earned, in just three innings and suffered the loss.

 

The Crawdads and the Intimidators meet up tonight in game two of their three game series at 6:00 p.m.
