The Hickory Crawdads kept their hot hitting going in Friday night's match up with the Charleston RiverDogs. They pounded out 11 hits, but those hits didn't translate into runs as the 'Dads (22-24) lost

to Charleston 6-3 at L.P. Frans Stadium.



Hickory has produced nine hits or more in five consecutive games. But Charleston's (24-22) lineup proved to be the more efficient. The RiverDogs turned their nine hits into six runs.


In turn, the Crawdads couldn't capitalize on their chances. They loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning and didn't score. Evan Van Hoosier drove in Hickory's first run with a two-out, run-scoring single in the second inning.


But the RiverDogs broke the contest open with a three-run blitz in the fourth. for a 4-1 advantage. The 'Dogs doubled down in the fifth with three more runs on four hits to push the 'Dads deficit to 6-1.


And the Crawdads sqaundered their scoring chances along the way. They left four runners in scoring position during a four-inning stretch; they left the bases loaded for a second time in the seventh inning.


Hickory finally broke through with a pair of runs in the eighth. Kellin Delgan singled and scored on a passed ball; Van Hoosier reached on a fielder's choice and eventually came home on a RBI single by Nick Vickerson.


DH Joe Jackson led the Crawdads going 3-4 game with a double. Jackson now boasts a 6-game hitting streak including five multi-hit games during the stretch. Vickerson was 2-4 with an RBI and a walk; Deglan was 2-4 with a double and a run scored .


Brady Lail (7-1), despite some shakey moments early in the game, picked up the win. He gave up a run on six hits with five strikeouts over five innings. Cole Wiper (2-6) took the loss. He gave up six runs on six hits, with three walks, and five strikeouts over 4.1 innings.


The Crawdads and the RiverDogs meet up again Saturday at 6:00 pm for game three of their four-game series.
