The Hickory Crawdads continued their red-hot hitting Thursday night against the Charleston RiverDogs. The 'Dads scored eight unanswered runs and beat the RiverDogs 9-4 at L.P. Frans Stadium.
After scoring ten runs in each of their last two wins in Kannapolis, the Crawdads (22-23) carried that hot streak back to Hickory by scoring nine runs on 11 hits. Kellin Deglan, Evan Van Hoosier, and Nomar Mazara led the way with two hits apeice. Deglin was 2-4 with a double and two runs-batted-in; Mazara was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI; Van Hoosier was 2-4 with a home run.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Hickory tied things up thanks to Deglen's two-out, two-RBI double down the right field line. The Crawdads took over from there.
The 'Dads broke the game open by scoring five runs in the seventh inning. Nine men batted in the frame. Nick Vickerson's RBI single and Ryan Cordell's bases loaded, RBI walk drove in the first two runs before Mazara cleared the bases with a three-run double to left field.
Hickory reliever Ryne Slack (2-2) got the win with three shutout innings and a season-high five strikeouts. The Crawdads have now won three in a row and six of their last eight games to climb within a game of .500. The RiverDogs (23-22) have lost three straight. The 'Dads and 'Dogs will play game two of their four-game series tonight at 7:00 p.m.
