Appalachian State University volleyball head coach Matt Ginipro annnounced the team's schedule for the upcoming 2014 season on Thursday.

"We are excited about the 2014 schedule that we were able to put together," said Ginipro. "This team is very hungry to get back in the gym in the fall and I think we have a very competitive schedule to get us ready for our first year in the Sun Belt."

Appalachian will play 16 matches in the Holmes Center this season, starting off its home slate by hosting the Appalachian Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29 and Saturday, Aug. 30. The Mountaineers will face Cleveland State on Friday at 7 p.m. before playing Tennessee Tech at 12:30 p.m. and Tennessee at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

From there the Mountaineers will hit the road for the first time by traveling to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a 7 p.m. match against Gardner-Webb.

App State continues its non-conference schedule with a trip to Lousville, Ky. on Friday, Sept. 5 to compete in the Louisville Tournament. The Mountaineers return home for a match against Presbyterian on Tuesday, Sept. 9, beginning at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers will host their second tournament with the Black and Gold Challenge taking place on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13. Appalachian will play Georgia State on Friday at 7 p.m., making it Appalachian's first ever Sun Belt event. On Saturday the Apps will finish off the tournament by facing Radford at 12:30 p.m. and Maryland at 7 p.m.

"With the longer travel in the Sun Belt, we wanted to be home as much as we could and hosting two tournaments helps us do just that," said Ginipro. "It looks like we will be the first Sun Belt contest of all sports when we host Georgia State on Sept. 12. I think that would be a great match to get a huge crowd for as we embark on our new conference path."

Appalachian State will begin conference play for good on Friday, Sept. 19 as they travel to Statesboro, Ga. for a 6 p.m. match against former Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern.

The Apps will stay on the road for a 12 p.m. match against Troy in Troy, Ala. on Sunday, Sept. 20 before finishing off the three-match away stand at UL-Lafayette on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers will return home for three matches on Sunday, Sept. 28, beginning with a 12 p.m. match against UALR. App will then face South Alabama on Friday, Oct. 3 before hosting Troy on Sunday, Oct. 5.

Texas will be the next stop for Appalachian volleyball as they travel to San Marcos on Friday, Oct. 10 for a 6 p.m. match against Texas State and then stop in Arlington for a 12 p.m. match against UT-Arlington on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The Mountaineers return to Boone the next weekend to face UL-Lafayette on Friday, Oct. 17and UL-Monroe on Sunday, Oct. 19.

App State will visit Arkansas on Friday, Oct. 24 where they will play Arkansas State at 7 p.m. and then UALR on Sunday, Oct. 26. The weekend will be followed by three home matches against UT-Arlington (Nov. 2), Georgia Southern (Nov. 7) and Arkansas State (Nov. 9).

Appalachian will travel to South Alabama on Friday, Nov. 14 and UL-Monroe on Saturday, Nov. 15 before returning to the High Country for its final home match against Texas State (Nov. 20).

The Mountaineers will close out their regular season schedule on Saturday, Nov. 22 when they meet Georgia State in Atlanta at 6 p.m.

"With 20 conference matches and a conference tournament over Thanksgiving, we have to gear up for a long season but this team has been talking about it since last season ended," said Ginipro.
