After a disappointing loss in the opening round, the Watauga Storm ninth Grade team turned things around and captured the championship in the Rural Retreat May Madness Tournament on Saturday.

The Storm lost to the Alleghany Pride 31-15. But that disappoining loss turned out to be a huge wake up call for the Storm as they blitzed the Rural Retreat Indians 36-19 in the second round. The Storm, the No.2 seed in the tournament field, continued its torrid run by knocking off the Indians in a rematch, 42-18.

That win moved the Storm into the championship game against Alleghany, the team that upended Watauga in the firstt round.

But the second time around, the Storm was better prepared and beat the Pride 29-16 to win the championship. The Storm travels to the Alleghany Spring into Action Tournament this weekend. This will also be the teams last tournament of the year.
