Six Lees-McRae mens soccer players will be on amateur rosters this summer, head coach Lee Squires announced Monday afternoon.
Senior James Smith (Eastbourne, England) will hit the pitch for the first time since he suffered a season-ending injury in the second half of LMCs opener in 2013. Smith will play for the Carolina Dynamo PDL team in Greensboro, N.C. He played for the squad last season and has already made an impact in the preseason by netting the game-winner in a 3-2 win against Elon.
Senior James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) will sport his talents for the Chesterfield United of the National Premier Soccer League in Virginia. He will be joined by alums Dale Parker and Matt Lacey. Future Bobcat Benjy Slator is also on the team. Galvani notched a goal on 11 shots before his season was cut short due to injury.
Junior goalie Gus Pederson (Sarasota, Fla.) is a member of the Cape Coral Hurricanes, which is a member of the NPSL.
Sophomore Chris Mullins (Greensboro, N.C.) has earned a spot on the Gate City FC Reserves. Mullins played in all 17 matches for LMC in 2013 while starting 15. He amassed 15 shots, while three landed on goal.
The duo of Alex Hasler (Browns Summit, N.C.) and Taylor Morton (Pinehurst, N.C.) will train and play for Carolina Dynamos reserve team.
Hasler connected on a match-winning goal in a 2-0 win at Pfeiffer Oct. 3. He played in 11 matches, earning one start.
Morton played in 15 matches with seven starts. He recorded six shots, with one on goal.
Several others will play in U-23 or adult leagues to stay fit throughout the summer.
