The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (40-14) split its two games at the 2014 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament - falling to Wingate 8-0 before beating Mount Olive 7-6 Saturday at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium. L-R now faces Wingate in an elimination game on Sunday at Noon.

Lenoir-Rhyne 7, Mount Olive 6....The Bears remained alive in the regional tournament after rallying from a five-run deficit to defeat the Trojans on Saturday night.

Trailing by a 6-5 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lenoir-Rhyne senior outfielder Brittany Coursen (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit the game-winning, two-run single.

Coursen also finished with three hits and sophomore outfielder Lauren Elder (Taylorsville, N.C.) scored three times while Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) came on in relief to earn the win.

Hoskins improved to 20-9 on the year after allowing just one earned run and striking out 13 batters. Hoskins entered the game in the top of the first inning.

For Mount Olive (24-26), Tiffany Hawley (Dunn, N.C.) totaled two hits and two runs batted in while Caitlin Ewers (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) (3-3) took the loss.

Wingate 8, Lenoir-Rhyne 0 (six innings)....The Bulldogs run-ruled the Bears in sixth innings as Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) ended the contest with a grand slam in the first game of the regional tournament earlier in the day. The contest concluded after a rain delay halted the action on Friday in the third inning.

Laskey and Katie McLaurin (Laurinburg, N.C.) each had two hits apiece and Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) improved to 25-9 after throwing a three-hit shutout. Hoskins fell to 19-9 on the season after suffering the loss.

The winner of the Wingate (37-19)- No.24 Lenoir-Rhyne game will face second-ranked North Georgia (45-9) in the championship game Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Either the Bulldogs or the Bears will have to beat the Skyhawks twice.
