Pioneers Eliminated In Playoff Opener PDF Print

The Watauga High boys' lacrosse team was eliminated in the second-round of the NCHSAA Class 4A state playoffs Friday night. Southwest Guilford (15-5) defeated WHS 14-3 Friday night at Leigh Wallace Memorial Field.

 

 

 

Ben Henson, Zack Williams and Silas Keeter scored for WHS (5-8) in Friday night's loss. Soutwest Guilford advances to play Lake Norman (11-6) in the sectional finals. Lake Norman defeated Charlotte-Myers Park 19-4 Friday night.

 

 

WHS SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON FINALE

 

 

The Watauga High girls' soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Fred T. Foard Friday night in the season finale for both teams in Newton, N.C.

 

Hannah Beard of the Tigers (9-13 overall; 5-9 Northwestern 3A-4A Conference) scored the game's only goal the 25-minute mark of the first half. Taylor Rios picked up the assist. The Pioneers (14-5-3; 8-5-1 NW3A-4A) finish as the No.3 seed overall in the NW3A-4A and the No.1 seed among the Class 4A schools. The state playoffs begin next week.

 

WHS won the junior varsity game, 1-0. Sarah Patton scored for WHS in the 64th minute; Gracee Kleeberger had the assist.
