Following a one-year hiatus, the Watauga High girls' soccer team will be represented this season at the North Carolina Powerade State Games. Junior Abby Carson and sophomore Heather Oswalt of the Pioneers will play for the West girls. Carson, a center back, has four goals and three assists this season. Oswalt, a goalkeeper, has

given up 14 goals in 20 games for a 0.70 goals-against-average. The Pioneers did not have a player competing in the state games last summer. The WHS boys have not had a player competing in the state games since 2008.



The North Carolina Powerade State Games will be held in Charlotte this season. Queens University and other area fields as needed will host the boys' and girls' soccer games this season, June 20-22. Jason Dragoon of East Lincoln High will coach the West girls.


WHS (13-4-3) will host Ashe County in its home finale tonight. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m.; the varsity match starts at 6:30 p.m. The Pioneers wrap up the regular season Friday night at Fred T. Foard. The state playoffs begin next week.
