The Watauga High boys' lacrosse team will host a state playoff game a Leigh Wallace Memorial Field Saturday.

The Pioneers (5-7 overall; 5-3 North Carolina Conference 13) will receive a first-round bye on Wednesday. The Pioneers will play either Charlotte-Myers Park (6-10) or Matthews-Butler (8-8) in a second-round game.

The Pioneers have made the state playoffs for the second time in school history. They hosted Pfafftown-Reagan in the first-round last season.

A starting time for Saturday's playoff opener will be announced later this week.

In the Class 1A/2A/3A bracket, Hickory (9-2), which won the NCC 13 regular-season championship, has a first-round bye. The Red Tornadoes will play either Cuthbertson (7-8) or Freedom (5-3) in the second-round Saturday.

St. Stephens (4-7), a No.3 seed among the Class 3A schools in NCC 13, takes on Marvin Ridge (14-1) in a first-round game Wednesday.
