Leyer Stifles Hickory's Bats PDF Print

The offensive woes continued for the Hickory Crawdads Monday night in a 5-2 loss against Kannapolis at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

 

 

 

Robinson Leyer (2-2) of the Intimidators (16-15) held the 'Dads (14-15) in check, going five innings and allowing two unearned runs on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Relief pitchers Andre Wheeler and Matt Abramson went the rest of the way, which each man throwing two scoreless innings apiece.

 

The Intimidators jumped on losing pitcher Collin Wiles of the Crawdads for four runs, all earned, on six hits before he exited the game in the third inning. Kannapolis jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, with Adam Engel lining a two-out, two-RBI single to left field. to put his team ahead. The Intimidators picked up two more runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Carl Thomore and a ground ball out by Omar Narvaez.

 

The Crawdads scored their only runs of the game in teh fifth. A Kannapolis error and run-scoring doubles by Nick Urbanus and Nick Vickerson made it, 4-2. But the Crawdads never threatened again.

 

Isiah Kiner-Falefa ended the night going 2-4 with a run scored---the first multi-hit game of the season for the Hawaiian native. Vickerson was 1-2 with an RBI double, a walk, and he was hit by a pitch; Urbanus was 1-4 with an RBI double.

 

Leyer earned the win, Wiles (1-2) took the loss, and Abramson earned his third save of the year for Kannapolis.

 

The Crawdads, who earned a split in their four-game series with the Intimidatorsm have an off day Tuesday before they start a seven-game home stand Wednesday.

Saturday (5/10) will see the first 1,000 fans with paid admittance take home a pink, replica Crawdads jersey courtesy of Pepsi. Sunday (5/11) will wrap up the festivities with a live, silent auction of the 'Dads game-worn, pink uniforms! TICKETS
