Parker Powers Apps Past Paladins PDF Print

Cara Parker belted a pair of home runs and the Appalachian State University softball team wrapped up the regular season with a 5-3 win against Furman on Sunday afternoon in Greenville, S.C.

 

 

 

The Win also gives App State (19-30 overal; 7-13 Southern Conference) the No.7 seed in the SoCon Tournament, which begins on Wednesday.

 

Parker got things started with a two-run homer in the second inning that gave the Apps an early 2-0 lead. The Mountaineers added to their lead with two more runs in the third.

 

Dani Heichen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter), who finished the season with a 17-game hitting streak, led things off with a single. Cynthia Gomez (Oxnard, Calif./Pacifica) followed with a single, and both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Warnock. Lindsay Loudermilk (Bluff City, Tenn./Sullivan East) stepped in and delivered a two -run single into center field giving the Apps a 4-0 lead.

 

The Paladins (28-24, 12-8 SoCon) narrowed the gap with three runs in the fourth. Ambree Muller and Natalie Clemmons had back-to-back doubles and Hannah Pace homered making it 4-3, But Parker App State an insurance run in the sixth with her second home run of the day, a solo shot to left.

 

Parker was 2-3 with two home runs and three RBI. She has 10 home runs and 29 RBI on the season. Loudermilk was 2-3 with two RBI. Loudermilk is tied with Parker for the team lead in RBI with 29.

 

Sydney Laws (Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood) (6-8) made her econd consecutive start and got the win. She gave up three runs, all earned, on five hits with a strikeout. and pitched four innings Alissa Schoelkopf (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) tossed the last three innings and picked up her first save of the year.

 

The SoCon Tournament begins Wednesday at UNC-Greensboro. The Apps, a No.7 seed, will play Chattanooga, the No.2 seed, in the opening round at 10 a.m.
