The state of North Carolina will be well represented Sunday afternoon on national television.
Madison Bumgarner, a left hander, who was born in Hickory and graduated from South Caldwell High School and is currently a member of the San Francisco Giants, takes on a fellow Tar Heel this afternoon in Alex Wood of the Atlanta Braves.
Wood, a lefty himself, was born in Charlotte and graduated from Ardrey Kell High School. Wood is 2-4 this season with a 2.93 earned-run-average. He's given up eight walks with 37 strikeouts in 40 innings of work. Wood has lost three in a row, and he got roughed up by the Miami Marlins in his last outing, giving up seven earned runs on ten hits in just five innings April 29.
Bumgarner is 2-3 with a 3.74 ERA. Like Wood, he's struggling of late himself. Bumgarner has lost three in a row. He's given up eight earned runs in 17.1 innings (4.22 ERA) with eight walks and 17 strikeouts during that stretch. Bumgarner went five innings and was touched up for four earned runs in a loss to San Diego on April 28.
The game will be televised by the Major League Baseball Network nationally, and the game can be seen regionally on Fox Sports South at 1:35 p.m., from Turner Field.
