The Watauga High boys' and girls' track teams hosted a Last Chance Meet at Lenior-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C., Friday. The WHS girls won five events on Friday and they posted 15 top-five finishes; the boys won four events and they had 20 top-five finishers.

 

 

 

Savanna Randle led the way winning two events, the 100-meter dash (13.26) and the 200 (27.32). Alison Seramur won the girls' pole vault with a personal-best effort of 11-feet, six-inches; Sophie Sloboda won the girls' 800 (2:45.77); WHS won the 4x800 relay (11:38.19).

 

Zach Styron led the way for the WHS boys. He won two events, the 300-meter hurdles (42.50) and the triple jump (41-1.50). Matthew Hall won the pole vault (11-06) and Michael Holland won the 800 (10:08.68).

 

The NCHSAA Class 4A Western Regional championships will be next Saturday, May 10, and will be hosted by Charlotte-Providence. The Pioneers have six regional qualifiers and ten provisional qualifiers. The final list of qualifiers will be announced on Tuesday.
