The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team is ranked fifth in the final NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll of the season. The Bears, 39-13 on the season, are also ranked No. 24 in the NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll this week. The NFCA is the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Lenoir-Rhyne won its ninth South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship in school history in 2014, sharing the crown this year with Anderson. L-R is led this year by sophomore Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.), the 2014 SAC Pitcher Of The Year, and senior shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.).

Hoskins has a 19-8 record with a 1.38 earned run average and 207 strikeouts while Mizelle is first on the team in batting average (.384), home runs (12) and runs batted (42). Both players were first-team all-league honorees this spring while Mizelle was named to the Food Lion SAC All-Tournament Team.

Other South Atlantic Conference teams in the regional poll this week are Anderson (second), Wingate (fourth), Lincoln Memorial (eighth) and Carson-Newman (10th). Lenoir-Rhyne is seeking its ninth consecutive trip to the postseason. The top eight teams in the region earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

The Southeast Region Tournament consists of two sub-regionals with a total of eight teams: the three conference tournament champions - Anderson (SAC), North Georgia (Peach Belt) and Mount Olive (Conference Carolinas) - and five at-large bids.

The Southeast Super Region Tournament takes place on May 16-17 and the 2014 NCAA Division II Women's College World Series is scheduled for May 22-26 in Salem, Va., at the Moyer Sports Complex. The playoff selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 5, at 10:00 a.m., and can be seen on
