PIONEERS SNAP SIX-GAME SLIDE

The Watuaga High softball team came ready to play on Monday. The Pioneers (3-11 ovearll; 3-10 Northwestern 3A-4A Conference) snapped a six-game losing streak by clobbering Hickory 10-0 at the WHS Softball Complex.

The game was called in six innings because of the ten-run mercy rule. Winning pitcher Megan Jackson went the distance, scattered four hits and struck out five. Offensively, the Pioneers pounded out 11 hits. Hope LaPointe and Rachel Cox led the assault with three hits apiece.

LaPointe was 3-4 with a run scored and two runs-batted-in; Cox was 3-4, scored a run and drove in a run. Jackson helped her own cause going 1-4 and she scored two runs; Elizabeth Dollar was 1-2 with a pair of sacrifices, two runs scored and an RBI; Rachel Hawkins had a triple and drove in a run. Hickory made four errors.

The Pioneers take on Ashe County, weather permitting, on Wednesday. They return home to play South Caldwell on Senior Night on Friday.
