The Appalachian State University softball team dropped a 7-0 decision to UNC-Greensboro in its series finale on Sunday afternoon at Symassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.




The Mountaineers (17-29, 5-12 SoCon) were held to four hits. The only bright spot on Senior Day was Dani Heichen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter), who extended her career hitting streak to 14-games with a 1-4 performance on Sunday.


Senior Lindsay Loudermilk (Bluff City, Tenn./Sullivan East), Cara Parker (Lake Park, Ga./Lowndes) and Caroline Rogers (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) also singled on the day for the Apps.


The Spartans (24-24, 7-11 SoCon) plated their first run thanks to Nicole Thomas' RBI single to center field in the third inning. In the fourth, Tory Wright hit a two-run homer to extend the UNCG lead to 3-0. UNCG added a single run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Raeanne Hanks got the win for the Spartans with a complete game performance.


Sydney Laws (Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood) started for the Mountaineers and pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits and seven runs with two strikeouts. Appalachian State will play its final home game of the season with a single game against East Tennessee State on Wedneday at 5 p.m.
