The Greensboro Grasshoppers played long ball Thursday night in an 8-3 win against the Hickory Crawdads at L.P. Fran Stadium. The Grasshoppers (11-9) hit four home runs in the game.
Greensboro entered Thursday night's match up leading the South Atlantic League with a .275 team batting average; the Grasshoppers were third in home runs 11.
Unfortunately, the Crawdads (9-11)gto a first-hand look at those talents.
Juan Avila homered in the second inning, giving the Grasshoppers a 1-0 lead; Felix Munoz launched a three-run blast in the third that gave Greensboro 4-0 advantage.
It was more of the same in the 4th, this time with the 'Hoppers going deep twice, with a solo shot from Justin Bohn and a 2-run dinger by Kentrell Dewitt putting the Crawdads in a 7-0 hole.
Winning pitcher Matt Milroy (2-1) went five innings allowing only one hit and a walk with nine strikeouts.
Evan Van Hoosier was Hickory's most productive hitting going 2-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Jairo Beras also had a two-hit night with a pair of singles in four at-bats; Ronald Guzman was 1-4 with a double and a RBI.
The Crawdads have lost three in a row and they're 1-3 on this seven-game homestand. The Crawdads and the Grasshoppers square off tonight at 7 p.m. at L.P. Fran Stadium.
