Lees-McRae College is set to host the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Fred I. Dickerson Athletic Complex Friday afternoon and all day Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C.
There are 40 events overall with the men’s javelin prelims and finals kicking off action at 2 p.m. Friday at Tate Field. Limestone claimed the title on the men’s side in 2013 while King brought home the crown on the women’s side.
Coach Ley Fletcher’s squad will have representatives in 27 events while senior Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) has dominated the pole vault all season and has cleared 4.90 meters, which paces all challengers by 1.10 meters.
Senior Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) enters competition on a hot streak after jumping a season-best 1.63 meters last weekend in Charlotte, which is tied for first in the conference.
The duo of Meagan Thorton (Millville, N.J.) and Erin Bingham (Jefferson, N.C.) have been constant threats in the 100-meter hurdles while Bingham is the only CC participant with a sub-15 second time in the event.
