Lenoir-Rhyne University's Kevin Baxter, a member of the track and field team, will compete in the prestigious Penn Relays on Friday afternoon at Franklin Field.
Baxter, a sophomore from Columbia, S.C., will run in the college men's 110-meter hurdles on Friday at 3:50 p.m. If he qualifies from his heat, Baxter will compete in the college championship on Saturday at 3:20 p.m.
Baxter currently sports the best time in NCAA Division II in the men's 110-hurdles this year, clocking a wind-aided 13.81 seconds at the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday, April 5, in High Point, N.C.
Baxter time of 14.02 seconds in the preliminaries at the meet is a school record as well.
Baxter finished first in the men's 110-meter hurdles last weekend at the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Track and Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex in Hickory, N.C.
Baxter has already qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the event for the second straight year. The 2014 finals take place on May 22-24 in Allendale, Mich.
Baxter became Lenoir-Rhyne's first-ever men's indoor track and field All-American with his sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles last year in Birmingham, Ala.
Baxter joins All-American Kate Griewisch as the only Bears to compete in the Penn Relays. The Penn Relays are now in its 120th year of existence. For information, live video and results, go to pennrelaysonline.com.
