The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team, the No. 1 seed in the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, will face eighth-seeded Catawba in the quarterfinal round on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m., on the campus of Lincoln Memorial.

The Bears, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II after moving up one spot this week, are 38-11 on the year while the Indians are 24-19 on the season. The two teams split their doubleheader this year in Salisbury, N.C.

Lenoir-Rhyne will be aiming for its fifth straight league tournament title and ninth overall since 2000.

Lenoir-Rhyne shared the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship with Anderson. Both squads went 16-6 in league play this year. The Bears are also ranked fourth in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll.

L-R is led this year by a pair of 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team honorees: sophomore pitcher Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) and senior shortstop Jody Mizelle (Colerain, N.C.).

Hoskins has a 19-7 record with a 1.18 earned run average, 10 shutouts and 199 strikeouts this season and was named the SAC Pitcher Of The Year.

Meanwhile, Mizelle, a four-year starter, leads the Bears in numerous offensive categories including batting average (.380), home runs (11), runs batted in (40) and stolen bases (17).

The winner of the South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament will gain an automatic berth to the national playoffs. The Bears will be looking to earn a spot in postseason play for the ninth straight year.
