Lenoir-Rhyne University's Ivan Vieitez has been named the final South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon.
Vieitez, a junior outfielder and starting pitcher from Miami, Fla., earns the honor for the third time this year.
Vieitez batted .750 (six-of-eight) with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Bears to a 3-0 week.
Vieitez had three hits in two of the victories and hit a three-run home run in Lenoir-Rhyne's 9-4 triumph over Pfeiffer last Friday in Misenheimer, N.C.
In addition, Vieitez earned the victory on the mound in L-R's 5-4 season finale win on Monday at home against Limestone. Vieitez allowed just two runs in seven innings of work to go along with five strikeouts in the triumph over the Saints.
Vieitez, a 2013 First-Team All-SAC honoree, currently leads the conference in batting average (.451) to go along with a team-leading four home runs, 38 runs batted in, 39 runs scored and a .694 slugging percentage.
On the mound, Vieitez finished the year with a 5-5 record and a team-leading 2.95 earned run average, three complete games and two shutouts in addition to 46 strikeouts.
Catawba's Craig Brooks was named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher Of The Week.
Behind Vieitez, Lenoir-Rhyne (20-28) finished the year with nine consecutive victories, its longest winning streak in five seasons.
