The Alexander Central High softball team steamrolled visiting Statesville 27-0 Wednesday night in Taylorsville, N.C. And the Cougars (20-0) did it by only batting two times.

Ironically, they didn't even finish their at bats in the bottom of the second. Alexander Central scored 22 runs in the first inning, and five more in the second when they hung up their bats.

Stateville (0-11 in the Northern Piedmont 3A-4A Conference) was given 12 consecutive at bats to end the game. The Cougars (11-0 NPC 3A-4A Conference) also clinched a tie for confernce championship.

And believe it or not, West Lincoln, leading 3-1 in the top of the fifth, erupted for 22 runs in the inning and blasted West Caldwell 28-3 in a Southern District 7 2A Conference game on Wednesday night.

Kylee Leonhardt and Katie Hively both went 6-for-6, leading a 30-hit attack.

And better late than never, Alexander Central coach Monte Sherrill picked up career win No.700 on March 27.
