Watauga High baseball coach Pete Hardee has announced that the schedule has been changed with Parkway High School from Bossier City, La.,

dropping out of the Tarboro Easter Classic, which officially gets underway with a home run hitting contest next Tuesday, April 22.

The Pioneers, were originally in a pool with Southampton, Va., and Lawrence Academy. But with Parkway dropping out, and Taboro adding its junior varsity team, to round out the six-team field, the Pioneers have now been moved into a pool with Tarboro and Rock Mount Prep. Southampton and Lawrence Academy will now be in a pool with the Taboro JV team.

WHS (7-10) will play Rock Mount Prep in its opening game next Thursday, April 24 at 1 p.m.; the Pioneers will then play Taboro, the host school, Thursday night at 7 p.m. Coverage next Thursday begins at 12:30 p.m. on AM 1450, WATA and GoBlueridge.net. Coverage of game two will begin ten minutes before it's scheduled starting time on WATA and GBR.

The Pioneers will also be without of their best players, Utah Jones.

"We're definitely going to miss him," said WHS coach Pete Hardee. "But he had this trip (back to Oklahoma) planned well before this tournament. We originally thought we were going to play (April 21-23), but now it's going to be played on Thursday and Friday and he won't be avaiilable.

"We'll go with Hunter (Isaacs) and Lambo (Matt Lambert) on Thursday , and that will hopefully get us the top seed in our pool. (Jeffrey) Gainey will go on Friday. But it's good to get away and play in a tournament during the Easter break. We get to travel a little bit, and we get to see some different teams."

The fifth-place game (at 1 p.m.), the third-place game (4:30 p.m.), and the championship game (7 p.m.) will be played on Friday.
