For the second time this year, Lenoir-Rhyne University's Ivan Vieitez has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player Of The Week. Vieitez, a junior outfielder from Miami, Fla., batted .632 (12-for-19) with a home run and nine runs batted in to lead the Bears to a 5-0 week.


Vieitez also scored nine runs to go along with a pair of four-hit games and connected on a two-run home run in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Mars Hill last Saturday at home.


In addition, Vieitez threw a seven-hit shutout in a 4-0 triumph over Mars Hill in the nightcap of the doubleheader on Saturday. Vieitez struck out four batters en route to his second shutout and third complete game of the year.


Vieitez, a 2013 First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, currently leads the league in batting average (.444) to go along with a team-high three home runs, 34 runs batted in and a .654 slugging percentage.


Catawba's Shaefer Shepard was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher Of The Week today as well.


Lenoir-Rhyne (18-26) returns to action on Wednesday evening when the Bears host Montreat at 6:00 p.m., in a non-conference game at Bears Field.

The Lenoir-Rhyne baseball home game today with Limestone has been moved to Monday due to wet weather. First pitch at Bears Field is set for 3:00 p.m.



Lenoir-Rhyne Golf Completes Play At The 2014 Food Lion SAC Championships


The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Golf Teams finished 12th and 10th overall, respectively, at the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships, which concluded with the third and final round Tuesday at the Sevierville Golf Club.


In the men's tournament, Lenoir-Rhyne shot a 976 (+112) on the par-72, 7,054-yard course while Carson-Newman won by one stroke over Wingate with a 925 (+61).


Wingate's Ben Gebhardt was the individual champion with an even-par 216 while winning by 11 strokes. For L-R, junior David Donovan (Hampstead, N.C.) was the top player as he finished with a 239 (+23) to tie for 25th overall.


In the women's competition, Wingate was the team champion with a 996 (+132) on the par-72, 5,817-yard course while Lenoir-Rhyne finished with a 1,113 (+249).


Wingate's Johanna Neumann was the top women's golfer with a 231 (+15) while sophomore Elizabeth Ewing (Greensboro, N.C.) led the Bears with a 36th-place tie. Ewing finished three rounds with a 274 (+58).

Lenoir-Rhyne's Zorica Djuric Earns First-Team All-SAC Honors In Singles For Women's Tennis


Lenoir-Rhyne University's Zorica Djuric has been named to the 2014 All-South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Singles First Team, league officials announced this afternoon.


Djuric, a junior from Belgrade, SERBIA, fashioned a 16-6 record at No. 1 singles this year including a 7-4 record against conference foes.


In addition, Djuric won nine matches in doubles competition this spring with two victories coming in conference play.
