Cuonzo Martin, who led the University of Tennessee to 24 wins and the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, has agreed in principle to become the new men's

basketball coach at the University of California.

Martin, who was 63-41 with the Vols, replaced Mike Montgomery, who retired at the end of the season. The Golden Bears were 21-14 last year.

Martin led Tennessee to a pair of NIT tournaments as well. He's 124-82 in his career. Martin was considered a candidate at Marquette before Steve Wojciechowski, an assistant coach at Duke, got that job. Martin then publicly stated that he planned to stay at Tennessee, but that changed when California offered.
