The Watauga High girls' lacrosse team nearly cracked the win column Monday night. But the Pioneers (0-8 ovearll; 0-7 North Carolina Conference 7), who

held a 7-5 halftime lead, came up short in the end as Pfafftown-Reagan squeaked out a 13-11 N.C. Conference 7 win.

Ellie Sloboda led the Pioneers with a season- and career-high eight goals in the loss. Sophomore Cami Hastings chipped in with a pair of goals; Courtney Kapral had a goal, and Katie Marks had an assist and two interceptions.

Meghan Bisignani made nine saves in the loss.

"We almost pulled that one off," said WHS coach Holley Quick. "We led for most of the game, but they came back pretty hard in the second half."

Reagan won the junior varsity match, 9-0. The Pioneers take on Reagan in a rematch at home Thursday at Leigh Wallace Memorial Field.
