Squires Named SAC Co-Defensive Player Of Week

Lenoir-Rhyne University's Alex Squires has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Co-Defensive Player Of The Week, league officials announced this afternoon.

Squires, a junior goalkeeper from Lawrenceville, Ga., earns the honor for the second time this year.

Squires shares the award this week with Wingate's Michael Connor.

Squires finished with 12 saves in last Saturday's 14-8 victory over Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., which helped Lenoir-Rhyne clinch a share of the first-ever South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship with Queens.

Squires currently leads the South Atlantic Conference in save percentage (59.9) and goals-against average (7.51) in addition to making 88 saves this year.

Mars Hill's Jimmy McBride has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player Of The Week.

Lenoir-Rhyne (9-3) is the second seed in the 2014 Food Lion SAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament and will face third-seeded Mars Hill (7-6) on Thursday in the semifinals in Charlotte, N.C., on the campus of Queens University.
