Appalachian State designated hitter Matt Brill and UNCG right-hander Tyler Frazier have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games April 7-13. The

selections are made by the league office.



Brill hit .533 in four games on the week, helping the Mountaineers to a series win over The Citadel. The freshman from Coal Valley, Ill., turned in three multiple-hit games and drove in eight runs on the week.


Against High Point on Tuesday, Brill was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the Mountaineers’ 6-5 loss. He opened the series against The Citadel with a 1-for-3 showing, picking up an RBI, on Friday.


He had two hits in each of the weekend games, going 2-for-5 with an RBI double in a 6-5 win on Saturday before closing his week with a 2-for-4 effort in which he had a three-run home run and an RBI single in a 10-6 victory Sunday.


Appalachian State (13-20, 7-4 SoCon) will take on Wake Forest on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to kick off a five-game road swing. The Mountaineers will face Elon in SoCon play this weekend.


Other top hitters included: Tyler Griffin (The Citadel), Ryan Lowe (Davidson), Tyler McVicar (Elon), Garren Palmer (Georgia Southern), Jake Hall (UNCG), Drew McWhorter (Samford), Cody Jones (Western Carolina) and James Plaisted (Wofford).
