The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (14-28, 8-18) won its third straight game for the first time this season in a 13-3 victory over Mars Hill (16-24, 9-13) Friday night in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Bears Field.


L-R sophomore shortstop Matthew De La Rosa (Austin, Texas) drove in three runs while the Bears used a six-run second inning to take control early.


The Lions cut the margin to 7-3 but the Bears put the contest away with three runs in each of the sixth and seven innings, respectively. L-R senior outfielder Brandon Walker (Otisville, N.Y.) capped off the seventh frame with a two-run triple.


Lenoir-Rhyne junior outfielder Ivan Vieitez (Miami, Fla.) added four hits and two runs batted in as the Bears finished with a season-high 20 hits in the win.


On the mound, L-R junior Jeremy Coburn (Louisburg, N.C.) improved to 4-4 on the season after allowing just three runs in seven innings of work to go along with eight strikeouts.


For Mars Hill, Jacob Rand (Waxhaw, N.C.) finished with a pair of hits and an RBI while Hunter Boydston (Asheville, N.C.) fell to 1-3 after taking the loss.


The two teams will wrap up the league series with a doubleheader at Bears Field on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne will also host Senior Day on Saturday at well.


Wingate Downs Lenoir-Rhyne, 8-1, To Clinch League Title In Women's Tennis



The Wingate Women's Tennis Team (18-4, 11-0) wrapped up its fourth straight South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship Friday afternoon with an 8-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (8-14, 1-10).


Despite the loss, Lenoir-Rhyne junior Zorica Djuric (Belgrade, SERBIA) won at first singles. Djuric prevailed over Wingate's Ali Evers, 6-0, 6-0.


Lenoir-Rhyne closes out its regular season with a home match with King on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., at Hickory High School.


Wingate remains at home to take on Mount Olive on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Falls On The Road To Wingate, 7-2



The Wingate Men's Tennis Team (16-6, 11-0) won its third South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship in four years with a 7-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne (6-16, 3-8) on Friday afternoon.


In singles play, Lenoir-Rhyne junior John Christian Reid (Claremont, N.C.) beat Wingate's Ryan Forbes by scores of 6-4 and 6-4.


L-R also prevailed at second doubles when senior Kilian Symalla (Wolfsburg, GERMANY) and junior Filip Dobrosavljevic (Cacak, SERBIA) defeated Forbes and Connor Kudrick of the Bulldogs, 8-6.


Lenoir-Rhyne will end the regular season against King on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., at Hickory High School.


Meanwhile, Wingate faces Mount Olive at home on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
