Sophomore ace Joseph Lowder got his fourth win of the season and the Huskies snapped a three-game Chalk Up Another One For Lowder That's four in a row for sophomore Joseph Lowder. The youngster has been a blessing in diguise for the Ashe County High baseball team.


He captured his fourth consecutive win as the Huskies (4-5 overall; 2-4 Mountain Valley 1A/2A Conference) defeated North Wilkes 4-3 in West Jefferson,, N.C. The win snapped a three-game losing streak in league play.


Lowder went the distance. He gave up three hits, two earned, on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.


The Huskies, who blew an early 2-0 lead, rallied from a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth. And Lowder, who was at the plate when the go ahead run scored, capped off the two-run rally as an error on his bouncing ball to short allowed Jamie Weaver to score.


The Huskies made five hits on the day. Joe Richardson, Bradley Richie, Hunter Barnes, Matthew Hamilton and Michael Elliott each had a hit. Elliott scored two runs, Weaver and Calhoun each scored a run apiece; Richie, Barnes and Richardson each drove in a run.


The Huskies are scheduled to play Watauga at Pioneer Field Wednesday.





Ashe County Athletics Director Marc Payne has announced that today's varsity soccer match between the Huskies and West Wilkes will kick-off at 7 p.m.
