There are reports that Jim Fox, the associate head coach at Davidson College, has been offered the job as men’s basketball coach at Appalachian State University. The source, who is familiar with the search process to replace Jason Capel, whose contract wasn’t renewed after four seasons as the Mountaineers’ coach, said that contract discussions were underway with Fox.

Fox, if hired, would be App State's third coach in the last six years. He has spent the last 13 seasons at Davidson under Coach Bob McKillop. The Wildcats are 288-130 and have won six Southern Conference titles during Fox’s time there. Fox was promoted to associate head coach before the 2012-13 season.

App State's first choice for head coach, Mike Rhoades, an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth, chose Rice University over the Mountaineers; Bobby Lutz, a Catawba County native an associate head coach at North Carolina State University, withdrew his name from consideration.

Mike Young, the men’s basketball coach at Wofford College, and Duggar Baucom, the coach at Virginia Military Institute, were also potential candidates for the App State coaching job.
