Home Runs Power 'Dads in 7-3 Win PDF Print

The Hickory Crawdads did a great impression of last year's team as they belted a pair of home runs in a 7-3 win Saturday night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park.

The 'Dads (2-1), who were held without a home run through their first two games of the season, broke through in a big way in the fourth inning Saturday night.

Kellin Deglan and Lewis Brinson both went yard to ignite a Crawdads' rally. Trailing 3-1, Deglan hit a solo blast that narrowed the gap at 3-2; a costly two-out error by the Grasshoppers kept the inning alive.

A wild pitch allowed the tying run to score and Brinson followed with a two-run homer that gave Hickory a 5-3 lead.

Hickory, which was held to a mear three hits in Friday night's loss, pounded out ten hits against the Grasshoppers in game three of this four-game series.

The 'Dads would add single runs in the fifth and eighth innings, with Travis Demeritte driving in Ronald Guzman on a fielder's choice in the fiifth; Marte plated Urbanus, who drove in Hickory's first run of the game, on a single in the eighth to make it 7-3.

David Ledbetter got the start and struggled. He gave up three runs on seven hits, one walk and one strikeout over three innings pitched. His identical twin brother, Ryan, came on in the fourth and tossed two scoreless innings to get the win.

And following Friday night's disappointing performance, the bullpen pulled itself back together and tossed six shutout innings on Saturday. Cody Kendall and Abel De Los Santos blanked Greensboro over the final four frames. The Crawdads pitching staff as a whole stranded 11 Greensboro runners.

Deglan finished the night 2-4 with a home run, double and an RBI. Brinson went 1-5 with his long ball. Guzman led the Crawdads with three hits in five at-bats, including a double and a run scored.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series Sunday at 4 p.m.
