'Dads Held in Check in 8-1 Loss PDF Print

Friday night's game exemplified life in general. One day you're up. Another day, you're down. Well, that was the case Friday night as Greensboro blasted Hickory 8-1 at NewBridge Bank Park.

A Hickory offense that produced eight runs on 14 hits Thursday night was held to only one run on three hits Friday. The Crawdads (1-1) scored their only run of the game in the first inning.

Lewis Brinson led off the game with a double off the left-center field wall. He stole third base and scored on a wild pitch to give Hickory a 1-0 lead. But it was all downhill from there.

And the 'Dads bullpen played a major role in that downfall. After they tossed six shutout innings on Thursday, they coughed up five runs on five hits Friday night.

The Grasshoppers took control in the second inning thanks to a Crawdads' error. That miscue led to three runs. With a runner on first and nobody out, 'Dads third baseman Nick Vickerson made a bad throw that sailed into the outfield allowing the runners to move to second and third. Catcher Sharif Othman followed with a two-run double down the right field line that scored two runs.

The Grasshoppers (1-1) broke the contest open with five runs in the sixth.

Akeem Bostick (0-1) suffered the loss. He coughed up three runs, one earned, on three hits with four strikeouts. Brinson finished the night 1-4 at the plate with his first inning double, stolen base and run scored. The other two Crawdads to pick up a hit here DH Jairo Beras and shortstop Luis Marte, both of whom finished 1-3.

The Crawdads (1-1) and Grasshoppers (1-1) match up tonight at 7:00 p.m. for game three of their four-game series.
